Green House Holywood

Summary

We are proud to be the architects of Northern Ireland's first ever Zero-Carbon House. With sustainability at the core of all our projects, it was an honour to be involved in this revolutionary build. A look into the positive future of architecture in Northern Ireland.

Carbon Zero Home

Eco Architecture Northern Ireland

As Northern Ireland’s first zero-carbon house, the Green House was subsequently shortlisted in the 2009 RTPI awards as the best sustainable project that year. This unique building encapsulates everything we stand for as environmental architects and is a particular example of what we have achieved.

Filled with technology, the Green House was constructed from SIP (Structural Insulated Panels) which have a higher specification than timber frames. There are also solar PV panels on the roof and solar thermal mounted panels on the rear. The house is heated by an air-pump, and there are efficient heating and hot water controls to ensure minimal waste of energy.

The Green House is now owned by an astute couple in Holywood who saw the opportunity and purchased at the right moment. They now possess one of Northern Ireland’s most efficient homes and enjoy it all the more as it only costs them £1,000 per annum to run.
