Community Architects Northern Ireland
The town of Bulembu in Swaziland now has a thriving and sustainable community which is committed to developing a new generation of leaders who will rescue this tiny African country for the future.
Not so long ago, Bulembu was abandoned by the British mining company which previously sustained it.
People were subsequently left without jobs, with AIDS continuing to ravage, resulting in a growing population of orphans.
After a South African charity bought the village, Bell Architects was approached to help transform the townscape back into a vibrant community. This was one of our first community projects and we travelled directly to Swaziland to assist. We’ve since redesigned Bulembu’s tourism and education zones and have helped the community write the next chapter of their story with a new Masterplan.
